They are also made from special material which has to be hypoallergenic, elastic and help the skin to breathe. This is needed to keep the skin of a diabetic free from infection and injury.

Wearing compression socks are another way of taking care of feet, whether injured or to keep away injury. These are special therapeutic socks made of woven nylon or spandex to apply pressure on the lower part of the leg. Circulation of blood to the heart is boosted which helps in reducing the blood clotting in the vessels of the lower extremities. These socks are especially beneficial for treating problems like varicose veins, thrombosis, chronic circulatory disease, lymph edema and post phlebitis condition. The main aim of these socks is to prevent swelling in the feet which is why patients who are non ambulatory are advised to wear them. Usually these are worn during the daytime and removed at night. It is also helpful for athletes, as it gives additional support while jumping or running, whereas for people who are traveling for long hours on plane wear it to prevent swellings of the feet.
